SATURDAY MORNING
SATURDAY MORNING
This was Benton Airpark, a little airfield near Wichita, Kansas. It's where I learned to fly many years ago. I don't live close enough to fly there anymore, and its got a new name now, Stearman Field (1K1). A lot has changed about that little field, but I like to reminisce sometimes about the things that I learned there.

When I had the chance I would go out and watch the planes come and go from the front porch of the little white house that served as the office. Here A Cessna 170 is getting refueled before heading out on a beautiful Saturday morning.
It was here that I started drawing the planes that I saw and that interested me, starting with the little blue and white Cessna 150 that you see sitting in the background. That airplane is in fact the very airplane I soloed in and later got my Private pilots license. I used to joke that all of my drawings were of planes on the ground because I couldn't afford to fly. I have many good memories of the place and the people that I met there. I hope that you have a place you can go back to like Benton Airpark, but if not you can sit here on the porch with me and watch airplanes.
