Flying in all types of weather both day and night, the Nightmares were pioneers in the use of early aircraft mounted radar which is seen here mounted in a pod on the belly of the aircraft behind the bomb bay.

Seen here attacking shipping around Rabaul in April of 1944, VMB-413 soon switched to the much more dangerous night heckling missions.
